CASTLE OF PIPO IN OZORA

Located halfway between Lake Balaton and the Danube River, in the gentle hills of Tolna County, lies the village of Ozora, home to one of Hungary’s most significant medieval monuments: Ozora Castle. King Sigismund’s famous knight, known to Hungarians as Pipo of Ozora, was bound to Ozora by love. After marrying Borbála, the daughter of the local lord, he began a grand construction project. The building that served as Pipo’s home and the center of his estate didn’t look like the typical castles of the time.

Its decoration was more similar to Italian city palaces. Inside the castle, visitors can see several historical rooms, including a furnished bedroom, a Renaissance dining hall, a weapon collection, and a consecrated chapel.
